This is one of the most common surprises in toilet installation, especially in older homes, and it’s worth knowing about before the job starts. When a wax ring seal fails gradually over time, water can seep beneath the toilet base and cause rot in the subfloor below. That damage isn’t visible until the old toilet comes out.

A cracked or corroded closet flange can’t hold a new wax ring seal reliably, which means a brand-new toilet can develop the same problem within a few years if the flange isn’t addressed. We inspect the flange and the surrounding subfloor after removing the old unit. If we find damage, we stop and explain exactly what we found before any additional work begins. Repairs are quoted in writing first, consistent with our no-hidden-fees commitment. Addressing these issues at the time of installation is often more cost-effective than discovering water damage after the new toilet is already in place.
